How it works: This castlist uses the concept of nesting tables (a table inside a table, much like Russian nesting dolls!). It's a heck of a lot easier to edit this way, because you're moving each character around as one large chunk, rather than lots of different cells. It concisely provides the following useful tidbits for each character:
  • Character Name
  • An icon that visually represents the character, as well as links to the icon page for the character
  • Character Journal
  • Link to threads played
  • Link to a profile, character sheet, application, etc.
  • Text listing of PB
  • Any sort of group definition (i.e. Year: Sixth, Affiliations: OotP, Power: Invisibility, Alias: Iceman, etc)

Instructions for use:
  1. Start your table with the following code:
  2. Start every row with the following code:
  3. For every character, use the following code:
  4. Finish each row (I suggest four characters per row, though three or five might also work depending on your cast/monitor size) with the following code:
  5. Finish your table with the following code:
  6. Optional: If you'd like some sort of title/header, paste this in it's own row:
  7. Optional: If you have blank cells and you'd like to fill them with something, try this:
  8. Obviously, the colors can be changed. For easy reference, the dark blue is #3D768F, the light blue is #B8CCE0, and the pale grey is #EBE9E0. Be sure to replace all mentions of a color.
  9. If you have questions, ask them here!

Hey, a quick question. In your example there is the light blue around each table, but when I try the whole thing, there's no light blue borders? Did I miss something? It's over here.

It looks like you've managed to fix it? :) Let me know if there's still any problems though.

I did! I forgot that the custom journal layouts would mess with the proportions. Thank you for answering, though! I was so confused at first lol.

gorgeous and just what i was looking for! i'm using it here and here.

is there any way of setting the cells up so they're all the same width? they're okay on a wider monitor, but on my netbook they look really uneven.

Yep, there totally is. The part that says "paste this per character" () - at the very beginning, where it says , you're going to want to add (this is for a flexible, percentage-based width - you'd do 25% for four characters, 20% for five, etc.) or for a fixed, pixel-based width - an icon is 100px wide, as a guideline for how wide you want to go. Either way, be sure to change my XXX's to a number. ;)

No problem! If any of it's confusing (and it very well might be), just let me know and I'll try to articulate better.

LOVE your layouts! I'm using this for a cast list and a simplified version for a contact list, with credit of course. Thanks so much!
