The LJ-cut code hides everything inside of it when looking at your journal. If you don't specify anything in the text, it creates a link that looks like this:

But with the text, you can change it to say anything else - but it won't accept html or certain punctuation. You can use it to hide your profile under the cut so it doesn't mess up the look of your journal.
