this might not be the best place for it, but i have to ask. what on earth happens in a custom? i know what it is (custom friends group?) but in an rp sense, is it just... a single post where you can have all your threads with that filtered group/person in one place? is it only for ooc plotting use?

	Personally, I don't think so. Again, I think it depends on your partner. For me, I prefer to plot as well as RP via customs if my partner doesn't want to make a comm, for example. I make a post specifically for plot discussion and then we just thread as normal in another post. (Reply to this) (Parent)

	haha, that's okay! i used to rp on lj, so i have no idea what half of the etiquette is on ij, so everything is helpful. do you know what kind of customs you use in celeb rp? (which wasn't a thing i knew existed until, like, yesterday.) (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	I think it depends on where you're RPing. For me, customs are an OOC place to discuss a line, but in celeb/certain pb games, I gather it's an IC place for the characters to talk as if they're literally using IJ customs to talk privately? Like an alternative to IC instant messaging. (Reply to this) (Thread)

I use my customs mostly as the alternative to AIM. I *hate* AIM and don't like using it. I get a desktop notification of new email with gmail and can respond pretty instantaneously when I'm online, without trying to be all cute with a username and all that. Now, there are some that may wanna mix a scene into their customs but I've never done that myself, and just set up new posts for it.

That said, I also use them to gif spam, lyric spam or just kinda keep a contact going with characters in some way shape or form. :)
