I started with PSP myself, it's a logical start as the basics there are much more user friendly to the newbie. I found that, once I figured out what all those huge intimidating links and tools and buttons and gizmos were, Photoshop was more intuitive to my workflow. But regardless, all of this can be done in PSP as well, things will just be in different places/under different names.
