Help?
First off, let me just explain just how very little I know about what I'm doing. Seriously, I know next to nothing about making icons. But after discovering so few icons available for my pb's of choice - particularly POC's, I've decided to try and make them on my own. I don't have Photoshop but I was wondering if Pixlr was similar? Could icons - I was hoping to master that gorgeous glossy sort I see so frequently being used, with that program? If so are there tutorials specifically for Pixlr?

I've got no tutorials, but Pixrl is a very basic version of Photoshop. At least it was the last times I bothered to look.

I use Pixlr when I don't feel like opening up Photoshop/my memory's limited. It's very similar, but as [info]nebari mentioned, a basic version. Not all the functions are available, so the standard steps people use in Photoshop tutorials many not necessarily translate directly. However, since it is so similar, there's a good chance they will.

I don't have any tutorials either but there are some floating around here for different icon effects that you might be able to duplicate in Pixlr.

pixlr should be just fine for that! [info]outdoor has an icon making tutorial here that is for photoshop but she mentions in the intro that you should be able to achieve it with pixlr easily.
