Transparent PNG tutorial!
Hello! I am working on some fun tutorials for update ideas for the new community wizardry (sorry for the shameless plug) and the first one I've done is a transparent PNG tutorial that we use that basically works great for handwriting fonts and posting images that aren't necessarily a square that will work with any color background. You should be able to do this in PS 4 and up! Confused?
This is my first tutorial, so please bear with me. If something doesn't make sense just ask and I will do my best to help!
01. We'll start with handwriting first! I used Pea Effieboo for Harry's handwriting - Harry is just an example and so is the font. First, open a new canvas in PS. I usually make it 500x500 just because I play around with the sizes I want the signature to be. Make sure that your background is transparent!
02. I type out what I want to, in this case his name/signature and once I get it the settings the way I like I highlight around the name:
Then I copy and hit CTRL N for a new canvas. Copying/Pasting will make the new canvas the size of the image automatically. Again, make sure your background is transparent.
That cuts out all of the extra space. If you save it with all of the transparent background, your image will be bigger and stretch your page, even if it's only showing the handwriting.
03. Next we come to the saving portion! Under "File", scroll down to the "Save for Web & Devices" option.
Next the save screen will pop up. Below are the options that I usually always use and they normally work pretty well for me!
Make sure the transparency option is checked and make sure interlaced is not. PNG24 so far has left the images and edges in best quality for me, so I always use that.
04. Boom, you have saved your transparent image! I usually upload to imgur or tinypic. I am not sure how photobucket hands the images. But now, you can upload your image and it'll be transparent for any colored background.
This method is also really fun for images! I find a lot of them at DeviantArt but you can easily make your own if you're good at cutting around things in photostop. White backgrounds are the easiest! It can be a lot of fun with paper as well. It's cool with images and photoshop creations.
