hiding customs and handwritten letters/notes
Two questions! First off, does anyone know how to "hide" custom posts? Basically so that a custom (or public entry) you've made for someone doesn't show up on your journal unless they hit the link? I've seen several journals do it where basically on their journal they have links set up for the people they've made customs for, but without those links there doesn't appear to be a way to find them on the journal.

Second, is there some kind of site or program for "handwritten letters"? I've seen people post images of what look like hand written notes and letters in journal entries and I can't for the life of me figure out if they use some sort of image editing program or if there's an easier way to do it. Thank you, I hope that all made sense!

I think the way to "hide" the posts like you're speaking of is to back date all of the custom posts to a certain date in the past, and then put the link to the actual date on your journal.

For example, set the date to December 31, 1999, and tick the back date box:

And then make the link:

http://JOURNALNAME.insanejournal.com/1999/12/31/

And for your second part, maybe they find fonts that look like handwriting and skew the image a bit in photoshop, or they write the entries themselves and scan it it?

Anyway, I hope that helps!

I do a lot of "handwritten" stuff for fic and stuff. If you look through DaFont, they have a wide selection of handwritten fonts, and then you can find some blank paper images through Google image search (or use paper brushes to make one in GIMP or PS.)

An example of what you can do with custom fonts, GIMP, and paper brushes. :D (I've got 14 examples in that fic.)

i know if you install a font on your computer, you can go to pixlr.com and use that font to type on images. i've done that a few times since i don't have photoshop installed on my desktop anymore.
