Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

Hello! So, I've just returned to wonderful realm of roleplay after a fairly extended leave of absence, and am currently trying to get back into the swing of how to do things pertaining to HTML coding and such. I used to be accustomed to creating all of my own graphics on Adobe Photoshop, however again, because I've been gone for so long I've seemingly forgotten how to navigate my way through the program!

I recently downloaded Photoshop CS5. I've browsed through several of the tutorial pages provided by this community, which have been immensely helpful, but what I'm really looking for in particular are tutorials on how to make fairly simple, clean, but refined and nice-looking profile/bio images, icons. etc. Here are a few of my OWN examples, only I can't seem to remember what my method was!

one.
two.
three.
four.

And also here are a few icons I found just for good measure (NOT mine, all credit goes to their respective makers!): one. two. three.

I'm sure if I spend enough time messing and browsing around I'll eventually figure it out, but if anyone could be of any assistance/help, offer some tips, or in general point me in the right direction of some useful tutorials I would appreciate it a TON! Sorry if this got a little long-winded, I hope I got my point across. :)

i'm not sure how the bigger pictures were edited, but the icon examples look like they've duplicated the layer, set it to darken and added a gaussian blur. the second and third ones may have added a third layer set to soft light (or overlay) and sharpened that layer instead of blurring. that's the method i use, anyway.

when you darken the layer and give it the gaussian blur is there any recommended percentage to use, for the blur that is? I'm on my phone currently so I can't readily open Adobe to play around with it right now, but after creating the layers do you merely merge/flatten them down?

any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

in cs5 it'll ask you to input a radius, i put .5 or .7 pixels

here's the basic full process i do:
crop to 100x100
duplicate layer twice
set top layer to soft light, sharpen once (or twice)
set middle layer to darken, gaussian blur radius about .7 pixels
adjust to your liking, flatten/merge all layers

Thank you! Simple enough.
