I have no idea where/what/how to add in a previous entries button on this beast.

It looks to me like you just might not have enough entries in the comm yet to warrant the link popping up. Maybe try changing it so it only displays one or two entries at a time, just to test to see if that is the issue? If so, you'll then be able to see if the button/link pops up on its own. If it doesn't, you know then that since there are enough entries to warrant it and it's not showing, that it is a coding issue.
