So I’m working on revamping my CDJ here and got some quick questions to anyone and everyone who’s willing to answer…

How important is it to display past characters?
What’s the best way to display them? Do you include the journal or not?
When writing your ‘about me’ section, what info is best to be included?

So, personally, I've never had a CDJ, but I can tell you what I like seeing:

Personally I love seeing past characters—especially if it's a character the player can see themself using again. As for displaying characters, I like seeing some info (journal/link to their full profile if available, name, pb, fandom or game used in) but not a ton, especially if you attach their journal and it has info in it.

On that note, if you need a pretty to put them in let me know; I've been meaning to make something for displaying characters.

	I guess that's the thing, there's only like one or two of my 'retired' characters I could see myself reviving someday. But I get what you're saying on the importance of showing the past works. Well, I think if you really don't want to display past characters you should stick to just the ones you might come back to, or find a more 'out of the way' form of displaying the retired ones you won't use again (like maybe just a bottom bar of mini icons where you can hover for NAME | PB: NAME | GAME or something like that.

But yeah! I'm working on some paid work atm, but I'll definitely get a character gallery code worked out sometime in the next day or so. :)

I think part of my hesitation, is I'm debating cleaning out some of my old journals. For like the names I know I will never use again to give away. That way they aren't just collecting dust. Perhaps some sort of set up to display an image with some info attached would be good enough. Hmmm...the gears are turning... LOL!

I will definitely be on the look out for when you get to it! :)

	What I find useful in an 'about me' are simple facts like availability, genres interested in, preferred format (aim/googledocs/threading), and whether or not you would be willing to join comms or simply play as psls. (Reply to this) (Thread)

	I think it comes down to personal preference truthfully. My past characters is just a massive list - game name, mod journal or thread journal and the list of chars I've played in said game. I go simple cause I have a /lot/ (Reply to this) (Thread)

	Yeah. I think it's not as important as to link journals but I see past as a way for mods to know the type go games you play in etc also if people want to friend you later on they know it is you? (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Speaking personally, I think past characters is one of the most important things to have in some form, because I go and look at past/present character lists to see where I know people from. For that, though, all you need is a list of characters and which game you played them in (I prefer them organised by game). Icons and journals are optional extras. (Reply to this) (Thread)

i so rarely play in games on ij that i don't really have any past characters to display, and when i see other people list them it doesn't mean much to me. but it is nice to see what characters people are interested in playing, or have played in the past, so.

what i made sure to include in my about me:
- my background in rp (how long i've been rping, on which servers, just a very brief outline)
- what kind of rp i'm interested in (game or psl, genres, writing preferences - writing out smut? length of replies? darker or fluffier?, fandom or original?)
- favourite themes and a list of fandoms
- things i am not interested in playing
- contact info - do i prefer threading or aim? when am i available? what's the best way to contact me?
