So some of this is rehashing what I've said before in comments, but it's gotten buried and I feel it deserves its own post.
Have you noticed that your ads don't load when you use Photobucket or any image hosting site that lets you name your files and folders? Or other people complain they can't see your ad when you can see it just fine? You may be the victim of Aggressive AdBlock Syndrome! How do you combat it? On your own AdBlock (a Firefox extension) you can change your settings at will. But what about everyone else's? The answer's simpler than you thinks: don't use the words 'ad' or 'advertisement' in your file names or folders. It's that simple.
Say you have a folder you put all your ads in, called "game ads" or you've named your file "gamename_ad.png" AdBlock picks out the word ad, and automatically blocks it from loading. So all that time you spent on that gorgeous ad image? Some people can't see it and don't even know its there to unblock. So just rename your files or folders, and you'll avoid that problem. Alternatively use Tinypic or Imgur or any other site that doesn't retain your file names.
Those blasted notifications. So IJ likes to hide them sometimes. Sometimes IJ doesn't send them at all but other times, they've gone right into your spam folder and you have no idea. Want to fix that? Set up filters. I've done it for my own gmail account and I can walk you trough it. (Any other email sites, sorry I can't help. I don't know how they set up their filters).
Click on the gear in the upper right corner of your gmail and select mail settings.
From the menu at the top, select "filters."
Select "create new filter." If you already have filters set up, scroll down to see that option.
In the "From" box, enter "lj_dontreply@insanejournal.com." Leave the rest blank. You can do a test search if you want, but it's not necessary. It will just bring up any and all replies/notifications currently in your inbox.
Click the Next Step button. Here you should check the "Never send to Spam" option. Click "Create filter." You can check off "Also apply filter to # messages below" but again it's not necessary. Those messages are already not in spam, so it doesn't matter.
That's it. Now you should get every notif IJ sends out and they won't get lost in spam. The ones that might have gone to spam will say "Due to a filter you created, this message was not sent to Spam." You might be surprised to see how often you see that message.
So you and Firefox had a nasty break up, and it took the kids: your Greasemonkey extensions. Never fear, you can regain custody and use Chrome to help raise the little buggers! Newer versions of Chrome are more and more compatible with Greasemonkey as is, but 15-20% do not function. I personal use this trick below and have not had any incompatibility issues with the scripts I've used. Let me introduce you to TamperMonkey! TamperMonkey is an extension for Chrome that allows you to use GreaseMonkey scripts on Chrome. Clear enough right?
Follow that link (while in Chrome, of course) and click "Add to Chrome."
You'll get a pop-up at the bottom that says "Extensions, apps, and themes can harm your computer. Are you sure you want to continue?" Click continue. If you've installed extensions on Chrome before, you know this is no big deal.
You'll get a pop-up in the middle of your screen. Click Install.
Yay it's installed! Now what? Now you have a little square black box in the upper right corner of your Chrome window, with two white circles in it. Right click that and select "manage extensions"
Click on 'options' next to TamperMonkey. Now you can add and edit scripts at will. Copy and paste your Greasemonkey scripts in there and they'll work as they do on Firefox! Now if only it was so easy for add-ons!
