Impossible
Title: Only Improbable
Authors: ladynero, pegunicent
Characters: Abel Nightroad, Sydney Losstarot
Fandom: Trinity Blood, Vagrant Story
Theme Set: Ten Set 03
Theme(s): Impossible
Warnings and Notes: Post-Game Vagrant Story setting, during the Armageddon of Trinity Blood. Complete crack and half naked men of faith.
Ladynero: Abel leaned against the wall, staring at the two groups that were at opposite ends of the room. Humans on one side in a group, glaring murder at the vampires on the other side and occasionally tossing glares at him. Lilith was over with the humans while Cain was examining the room itself, as if it held a clue to how Sydney was able to recreate it. Seth had bowed out, going to watch the water and relax.
Pegunicent: Sydney smirked. It had been even easier to corral the Dark touched 'vampires' than it had been to summon up the Men in their station. A little teleportation circle, a little Fascination, and everyone came together like kerosene on water. "Now that we're all together, we can get down to business. Ladies, gentlemen, no need to stand on ceremony." With a flicker of claws he conjured up a table nearly as long as the room and chairs for each. "Please take a seat so we may begin." When no one moved his grin simply got sharper, shadows wrenching themselves from the walls and floor to manhandle every body into a chair and keep it there. Cain and Abel he left to observe.
Ladynero: Cain was frowning in fierce concentration. Abel could see that from where he was standing behind Sydney. He supposed he should explain that Sydney wasn't a typical witch, but a Prophet. Unless Cain wanted to make a deal with the same Dark that Sydney had, there was no way that Cain would have the same powers. Abel shifted until he could watch Sydney's profile.
"What do you think you are doing, mister?" demanded the human general, Makenzie, Abel thought his name was.
Pegunicent: "I am ending this ugly, pointless and altogether far too messy war of yours." Sydney sniffed, as if that should be painfully obvious. "You are the closest thing to leaders either side has, therefore we will hammer out a truce between the two sides and then I shall let you go to enforce it on your respective peoples. Now, before you ask what gives me either the 'right' to interfere, or something even more stupid like 'how do I expect to make you all comply', I would ask you to take a long hard look at yourselves. You're here because I want you to be. You're *alive* because I want you to be, and your pathetic excuses for armies are exactly the thing that gives me the right. You invaded my home and interrupted my life, I am returning the favor." His tone was one of a parent chastising children caught fighting over a doll.
Ladynero: One of the vampires sneered. "We do not listen to you, *Terran*," he spat, glaring at Sydney as he flexed his claws on the table. "We are vampires, superior to even your tricks."
It was all Abel could do not to roll his eyes at the idiotic creature.
Pegunicent: Sydney didn't even bother to reply with words, reaching out with a flicker of will and Dark to tease the virus cradled in the hearts blood. 'It is interesting to note,' he thought while watching the creature thrash and gasp, 'that vampires and humans are really the same stock.' Putting the empowering virus to sleep, he continued as though never interrupted. "This entire island belongs to me. It is the closest thing to neutral ground as can be found outside of the grave. Speaking of graves, I ask you not to rattle the dead here over much with your violence. Souls sleep fitfully within the walls of Lea Monde."
Ladynero: "You can't scare us with your ghost stories, witch," sneered Makenzie, glaring at Sydney. "And there is no way in Hell that vampires and humans are the same. We might have the same bodies, but humans aren't the monsters that they are."
Pegunicent: "We are all monsters here." Sydney murmured, eyes hard. "Anyone who invites sorrow and death on another is a monster. To deny the truth is hypocrisy and stupidity. Neither are welcome here." Glancing over at Cain, he pondered the situation. Perhaps there really was no better method. Turning his back to the table he gave Abel a rueful look. "Can I impose upon you and your siblings to maintain the peace if I depart for a few hours after this? I'm going to need to rest, and I don't want these idiots killing each other." He asked quietly, knowing the toll the Dark would exact from him.
Ladynero: Abel nodded. "If we have to, we'll forcibly separate them or throw them off of Lea Monde," he remarked, getting a sad look from Lilith as she seemed to be asking why he was going along with this.
Cain smirked. "We might even let a few live," he purred, getting some sputtering from the humans. Abel sighed and shook his head at his twin's stupidity. If they didn't let them live, then they would have to do this whole thing over again.
Pegunicent: Sydney smiled gratefully. "Thank you. I'm afraid this isn't going to be pleasant for anyone." Turning back to the assembled gathering he spread his arms wide, the room darkening as the Dark *moved*. "You wish to claim you are not the same? Then we shall see." The Rood blazed across his back as he reached into the hearts and souls before him, the Dark sniffing disdainfully at each. "Before this congregation, you will each show us your souls." Sydney's gray eyes were sad, and old, and pitiless as each had their turn being wrenched open, their worst atrocities and pains spread out like moving pictures through the air.
Ladynero: There were screams, yells, swearing, and a few burst out sobbing. Abel watched all with emotionless eyes while Cain's gaze was greedy.
Pegunicent: When it was over, Sydney had the distinct sensation of being covered in filth. Right down to the bone. It was an abuse of power, to force another bare so. It was disgusting, and shameful, and he felt genuine sorrow for these fools he hurt. "So you see, we are all monsters." He murmured sadly, feeling the Dark shake like a dog shedding rain. He had pushed it, asked it too much, and it was unhappy with him. With a sigh he sank down into a chair, shedding pyreflies as he struggled to hold a corporeal form a few moments longer. "I'm sorry. Negotiations will have to wait... until we are all more ourselves."
Ladynero: Abel pushed himself up off the wall, walking over to the vampire half. "I will watch them, Sydney. You do what you need to do." He glanced at the huddled mass of misery. "I do not believe they will be much of a trouble now."
Cain eyed Sydney before casually wandering over to place a hand on one of the silver hands. "We will watch them."
Pegunicent: Sydney felt a ghost of a smirk stretch his lips at Cain. He was far too familiar with the movements of snakes to fail in seeing this one slithering through the dust. "I'm sure you will child." He shook his head slightly then let go with a sigh, fading out in a twinkling of pyreflies to fall into the Dark's gentle hold. Let the ambitious youth learn what he could, he would have his work cut out for him to ever gain the trust of one so wise as the Dark itself.
Ladynero: Abel watched as Cain looked at the chair, that thoughtful greed growing on his face, before glancing around at the others. "We will remain here until Sydney has returned," he announced, his voice carrying over the sobbing that was still going on.
Lilith looked at him, tears streaking down her face. "How can you side with him, Abel? Against us?"
That got a shrug. "Easily."
Pegunicent: While Sydney slept, the Dark watched. Without a vessel, there was little it could do for itself, at least on a grand scale. It watched, and listened and *knew*, so that when it's vessel was rested and repaired, it would be able to act accordingly. The Dark loved Sydney, it's perfectly devoted servant. It loved Sydney for disagreeing with it and thwarting it and accepting it without that foul some greed and lust for power it felt in others. And because it loved Sydney, it kept him, possessive of it's most unique treasure. These mice he played with now were nothing to the Dark, but they hurt him by making him hurt himself. It did not like that. It had created these mice in it's long ages of boredom, shifting little things around until a new race more in it's own image emerged. Now it shifted things again, faster than before and with more deliberation.
Ladynero: "We created you, Crusnik 02, and we can unmake you too," growled another one of the humans, Doctor Livingston. "You are just a weapon to do what you're told."
Abel shook his head. "No, I'm not. I'm a person, one you tried to break by allowing me minimal food, drink and rest before shoving me out on mission after mission." He tilted his head, staring at them. "When Sydney offered me a place to sleep, I slept for over two days straight before I woke up due to hunger."
Pegunicent: The Dark settled back, satisfied. The results would take a while to show, but it was pleased. Sydney wanted the mice the same, and now they were. They were all equally corrupted, and the corruption was equally dormant.
Ladynero: No one tried to act up during the time that Sydney was gone. There were threats and sneers, but no fighting. Cain tried to question Abel about Sydney's abilities, but Abel could only reply that Sydney was a Prophet of some sort.
Pegunicent: Sydney sighed as he pulled himself together again, walking out of shadows with a stretch and roll of the shoulders. He was pleased to see not too much time had passed while he recuperated. With all of the Dark at his disposal, he was still only a Shade now, and too much exertion on his tattered soul caused him to fall to pieces. Literally these days. "My apologies for the wait, I hope you weren't too bored without me." He gave the Crusniks each a nod and a smile of thanks, striding to the table and setting his hands upon it, a wolf's grin in place. "Shall we set aside the worthless pride and idle threats and begin working toward peace?"
Ladynero: "What are your terms?" asked a vampire, his voice a bit hoarse from screaming. That surprised Abel. He thought that the healing would have fixed that.
Pegunicent: Sydney kept from breathing a sigh of relief, knowing that he'd already won. "The Earth is a large enough place for both races to have their fair share. Since the peace will be too new to expect the lot of you to intermingle we will take a map and divide out territories. You will withdraw your respective forces to these agreed upon lands, and set about going on with your lives. There will be no border skirmishes, no raids, no rebel factions seeking to rekindle the bloodshed. Lea Monde is neutral land, and so to shall be the border between the agreed upon territories. I expect you to be able to police yourselves within your own lands. If you can not form a working and just system of government within five years, I shall set one up *for* you."
Ladynero: "How do you plan on enforcing any of this?" demanded Livingston, his face twisted in a sneer. "You are just one person. We have you outnumbered."
Abel moved to stand at Sydney's shoulder. "I will help him as needed."
Pegunicent: Sydney arched a brow. "Thank you for your support Abel. I sincerely hope that won't be necessary." Looking at the impudent human he tapped a claw against his arms. "Do you really believe you can defeat me? Destroy me? To take Lea Monde you would have to combine your forces and you can't even agree to come to a simple peace table together." With a shrug he leaned forward, head tilting just so as he gazed into Livingston's eyes and further. "Why do you want to fight me? I'm offering you everything you've been fighting for. I'm offering you freedom and peace." His words were a silky murmur, a slight smile curling his lips as he liberally applied the Fascination to the man's mind.
Ladynero: Livingston blinked and looked at Sydney, curious and a bit hungry now. "What about the fully stocked lab that you brought down? Can you replace that? With specimens?"
Abel felt like growling at the man. So that was what he wanted, a lab where he could play god on other helpless creatures and beings.
Pegunicent: "Hmm. I think we can compromise." Sydney murmured, reaching deeper. It was like touching pond scum but even that was useful. "You like to change things, make them better and more useful yes? There are many things that you can play with to help both sides." The weapons had changed and destroyed most viable farm lands, food sources, resources were in short supply. "Yes, I think I can let you loose on the grains and crops and you'll show us your talent by saving those who would otherwise starve. We shall see from there."
Ladynero: The man thought for a few minutes before nodding. Restoring the food supply ruined by Armageddon would bring him even more fame than creating living weapons had.
"And what about us? Part of our food supply is sitting across the table from us?" inquired one of the vampires.
Pegunicent: Sydney leaned back, withdrawing from the man's mind with the distinct urge to take a scalding bath. "It is true that you require blood to keep your health, but humans provide very little blood compared to other creatures. With all of this science and technology available, it shouldn't take a few dedicated minds long to develop a process for creating artificial blood." He arched a brow at the vampires. "Then you would be entirely independent from humans, you would require nothing from them at all. The ultimate freedom to create and refine your own culture, your own Paradise here on Earth according to your own sets of values." He looked over at Abel. "Surely that is not an unreasonable suggestion if they are able to create a new race?"
Ladynero: "Not unreasonable at all," remarked Abel after a few moments of thought. "They had managed to bring back the werewolves and a few other beasts from legend and myth. Creating an artificial blood supply, especially if it was a universal donor, would benefit both sides." He eyed the table. "Perhaps scientists from both sides working on it as an independent study?"
Pegunicent: Sydney grinned, looking back at the table expectantly. "I can offer Lea Monde as host to those wishing to work on the venture. As demonstrated, nothing happens here that I do not know of and all would be perfectly welcome and safe. I'll let you think on it in any case." Flicking a claw, he called up a map of the world and gestured for Abel and Cain to join the discussion. "You two know more about the world beyond these shores than I. If you would be so kind as to give your opinions on what is fair, we shall begin finding people places to live. We must consider populations, land mass, and *usable* land. No one wants to be cast into wastes."
Ladynero: Abel moved closer. "Probably the easiest thing to do would be use this continent, Europe, divide it down the center like this, and give half to the humans and half to the vampires." He drew his finger from North to South, making sure that Italy and the Vatican were on the human side. "Then when people start feeling ambitious again, they can start expanding out into the Desolate Lands or down into Africa." He gestured towards the ruined Asian continent before down to Africa.
Cain nodded. "That would be the best plan. Only, I'm not sure if you don't want to keep the humans that are in the vampire lands there. That would give someone to do things during the day, like run shops and plant crops."
Pegunicent: Sydney pondered, feeling a little out of depth staring at the changed lands. "I remember when all of this was under Archade's thumb," he ran a claw over eastern Europe and down to the middle east, "And Dalmasca fought to keep peace between the sand sea tribes." Shaking he head he studied the faces of his captives. "What say you? Complete with drawl or co-habitation? Frankly I don't know that I trust everyone to live together but hope springs eternal."
Ladynero: The vampires glanced at each other. "Perhaps co-habitation for now and if that doesn't work out, a complete withdraw," remarked the one that seemed to be the spokesperson. "We would have to figure out how to work the fields and shops, but we could."
Abel patted Sydney's shoulder in support before stepping back.
Pegunicent: Sydney nodded, conjuring up a bottle of ink and dipping a claw within it to draw a line down the map. "There. A few weeks to move troops to your respective side, and we shall see about this co-habitation thing. Feelings are not aligned as easily as countries, there will be mistrust and hostility between parties but as long as there are assurances against outright violence, I'll let you deal with the details." Standing straight he popped his back and considered Cain and Abel. "Is there anything I am missing? Anything you would like to address? I profess ignorance on many of the changes wrought while I slept."
Ladynero: Abel shook his head as he turned to the humans. "We Crusniks will choose where we wish to go and wish to stay. You have no say in our lives any longer. Only what we give you." He looked at the vampires. "Yes, we were created to be your destruction, but three of us were only created two years ago." He nodded towards Lilith. "She was the prototype since she survived."
"Abel! That's classified information!" gasped Lilith, her eyes wide.
Abel shrugged. "It's my information."
Quezacoatle: Sydney gave the woman a scathing look. "I hardly see how the child's age can be a terrible secret. The perverted purpose behind his birth barely is. I myself was born from a bastard union for the sole purpose that my father have a sacrifice readily available and expendable in his bid for power and immortality. And that was... oh... nearly seven thousand years ago by your calendar I believe. It's sad how very little has changed."
Ladynero: Cain was practically drooling now, over the thought of living that long with all that power. Abel snorted and folded his arms. "We were grown in tanks until we were at the right age they wanted for us. Old enough to be trainable and able to fight, but young enough to be bait."
There were some angry mutterings from the vampires and some hard glares. "How do we know they won't make more to send after us?" demanded one of the vampires.
"Because we're the only four it worked on," replied Abel with a shrug. "She would need either Cain or I to make a functioning Crusnik child and that's something I wouldn't wish on anyone."
Quezacoatle: Sydney grimaced and shook his head. "There is little reason to expend energy and resources on such things when they have no purpose is there? If the war is over and both sides move on to the far more tasking duties of providing for themselves, then why create weapons for war? Besides, I trust Abel and assessments. Everyone grows weary of killing and fighting and the constant fear of death." He laid a careful hand on Abel's shoulder, claws mindfully far from cloth and skin. "We all want to live. We want to live and let live even if that means letting go of the anger and hate long enough to build upon something else. We do not have to forgive, or forget. We simply have to move onwards."
Ladynero: There were some more grumblings, but they were fainter, almost noise to make noise. Abel looked at Lilith. "You have a choice, Lilith. Stay here with us or go live where you like among the humans." He hoped he wasn't over stepping his bounds any with Sydney, but he thought she might make a good emissary to the humans if her rigid sense of proprietary could be changed.
"I'll remain here if that's all right," she murmured after glancing at the humans.
Pegunicent: Sydney shrugged, uncaring where Lilith chose to take herself. "That is your choice. Where you find your home is within your own heart." He gave Abel's shoulder a gentle squeeze before letting the boy go. "Lea Monde will always be open to those seeking refuge and peace, but the more souls that fill her halls, the less she dreams."
Ladynero: That got confused looks from everyone except Abel. He was use to the mystical nonsense that Sydney seemed to spout off at a whim. Even after the short time they had been acquaintances. "Does this mean Lea Monde is going to be rebuilt?" he inquired, glancing back at Sydney.
Pegunicent: Sydney frowned, crossing his arms as he thought, claw tips tapping. "I had not intended to raise her, but I can not expect people to live on ash and dust. I suppose it can not be helped."
Ladynero: "You are the Lord here. If you raise her, then peaceful people can come set up shops as they need, which means less strain on creating various things those living here will need." He tilted his head, thinking a moment. "And there will have to be a way for people to get back and forth from the mainland. Perhaps a defensible bridge?"
Pegunicent: Sydney nodded, gazing around the room he had resurrected. "I suppose it makes the most sense..." He trailed off, studying their guests. "Yes. I think you are right. And it will act as a demonstration for those who still believe they are 'above a mere Terran's power'." His smile turned as sharp as his claws.
Ladynero: Abel offered a smile. "Then they are still the more foolish to believe that," he remarked with a shake of his head. He reached under his tunic and pulled his dog tags out from under his uniform, throwing them on the table towards the general. "My resignation."
The general sputtered a bit, but didn't really protest even as Lilith's sad, disappointed look grew.
Pegunicent: Sydney gestured to the door, beckoning his captive counsel outside. With a silvery chime he made a motion like that of cracking knuckles, striding swiftly and silently out into the bright moonlight. The moon was not full, but with glowstones and a few cheerful bonfires, the ruins and ruble of the island were plain. For a few moments. Then Sydney gave Abel a smirk and started calling back his home.
Ladynero: Abel returned the smile and watched as the ruined island started growing buildings again. The grass peeled back to reveal cobblestone streets while various glowstones were covered when a building rose before it. There were murmurs of fear, surprise and envy as everyone watched.
Cain was practically whimpering in desire. He wanted this power. Then no one would be able to sneer at him or think him less that human again.
Pegunicent: The city was easy enough, the Dark playing happily in the streets, old spell songs alighting in every home, on walls and door ways. Gardens flowered, fountains flowed, he could almost see the souls of the lost wandering about. The Cathedral, battered and rent in half from the first quake, came back together stone by stone, its stained glass twinkling with the stars. He didn't need to see the stain of blood over the atrium floor to know that it, to, had been brought back from memory. He considered leaving it like that, the way it had been when he last saw it, but prudence more than pride made him restore the structure to its prime glory.
Ladynero: Abel looked around at the city with a small smile on his face. It was beautiful in a unique way. These sort of structures were no longer found on the continent, the humans having preferred steel and concrete, but Abel found himself liking the simple stone buildings more. Cain started poking around the second most of the buildings were completed, spotting the bloodstain on the Cathedral floor before it vanished, leaving him rather curious to know why it had been there in an apparent church to begin with.
Pegunicent: When it was done, Sydney breathed a quiet sigh. He wasn't worn out strangely, though he knew the amount of power he'd expended should have made him at least sweat. A gift then, from the Dark that loved him and knew him best. This he would not have asked for himself. "Now for a bridge." he smiled. "Abel, where do you suggest? The old road that used to lead to Lea Monde is very long gone."
Ladynero: "The place where Lea Monde is closest to the shore. That way there isn't that much of a risk should an earthquake happen or someone get snippy and decide to bomb it while there are people on it," he replied, no hesitation in his voice. It just made sense to him to have it that way. "And if anyone tries to be mean and violate the neutrality of the island, we can put up a toll booth to charge them entry."
Pegunicent: He chuckled and shook his head. "I'd leave that bit to you, seeing as I have no use for money and no idea of it's value anymore." He looked around finally walking across half the island, a wide cobblestone road spreading out under him. "I believe this is the best point." With a hum he directed stone and bone to reform into a broad, nearly impossible bridge fit for two wagons abreast and sturdy enough to withstand an army tromping across.
Ladynero: "The only thing I would ever use money for would be to buy things I need, like food or clothes." He shrugged and followed Sydney, watching as the bridge formed like a movie being played in reverse. It was an interesting sight to behold and one Abel knew he would keep with him for the rest of his days.
Pegunicent: "Hmph. Books." He said absently. Books were one of the few things he could not simply call up from basic parts. After all, he could only call what he knew, and if he had not read it, how was he to recreate it?
Ladynero: "Books? What are those?" He looked at him curious. New information.
Pegunicent: Sydney stared at Abel aghast. "What are..." he gaped, fumed, turned, and gave the General a glare that could have melted Damascus steel. "I realized you were perverse amoral fools but I didn't realize the *half* of it." Stalking like an angry cat he swept past the astounded fools. "Come on. This must be rectified."
Ladynero: He followed behind Sydney, his bare feet lightly slapping the new cobblestones. He had discovered that he preferred to wear just the tunic part of his uniform and was already making plans to get a few more modified for himself. "Where are we going?"
Pegunicent: "The library." He walked swiftly through the city, spell songs lighting and glittering in his wake as he headed directly to the Cathedral and tossed the huge doors open wide. The library was above the rectory, taking up nearly half of the upper levels of the Cathedral itself. Every wall was braced with shelf upon shelf of books, with plenty of stands, soft couches and low tables for a herd of scholars to study. "*These*," he gestured to the ancient volumes, most still bound in leather or wood, "are books."
Ladynero: Carefully, Abel pulled a book off the shelf and flipped it open, staring at the writing on the pages. "Oh. These are information files on paper and bound." He nodded. "I never saw anything like this except for a Bible and didn't know it was called a book."
Pegunicent: "Information file." he snorted. "That sounds perfectly cold and soul-less. When reading a book, you should be able to feel the author through his words, see the images from his mind in the turning of each phrase. You can even tell his profession from the markings of his pen." Sydney strolled about, selecting a favored tome and summoning up a shadowy lich to handle the volume. "This is Debile. Here, you can see from the curling letters and even spacing that the writer was well practiced. As you read you can see each sentence is well thought out and precise. A scholar wrote this, and not just any scholar but a woman well versed in the arts of fire. Her passion resounds as she describes the many uses and types of flame, but peters off as she gets into the technical wording of spell craft. Someone who has studied magic but is not a native practitioner."
Ladynero: Abel slid the book he held back on the shelf before approaching the shadow and gently running his fingers over the inked pages. "You can tell all of that from this?" he inquired, his eyes flickering over the pages as he took in the details that Sydney pointed out. He tilted his head. "I think Albion has a large library. Or the Vatican. We could see about getting copies of their books to add to your library here." He wondered if those libraries would be even half as grand as this one.
Pegunicent: "Well, we'll see about exchanging books after we get more pressing matters seen to, but yes, there is much to be gleaned from books. Not only what is written, but how and why and to what end." He sniffed, caressing the book with the back of a claw. "Of course the only ones here are those I remember, but that is as good a starting place as any for your education."
Ladynero: He thought for a few minutes before turning to face Sydney. "How about an exchange of information between us," he offered, gesturing between them. "I teach you what I know about the modern technology and things that you don't know in general about the world and you teach me whatever I *don't* know in general." He offered his hand, unafraid of the claws Sydney sported. "Deal?"
Pegunicent: He considered the hand before him for a moment and then gently wound his claws around it, a strangely wry grin stretching his lips. "It is a pact then. I suggest starting in the history section and working your way through the sciences before trying to grasp the political section and biographies. They're dreadfully dull and largely biased."
Ladynero: He nodded and grinned. "Most of the world runs on electricity for power since they're not fortunate enough to have glowstones," he responded. "That was why the station could remain in space. It had scientific devices that cleaned the air as well as simulated gravity. The computers are full of information, allowing someone to type on a keyboard, input massive amounts of information, and then call it up to read it later. Since it is typed, everything looks the same. Legible and easy to read." He shrugged a shoulder. "I'll go cannibalize one of the computers later to show you."
Pegunicent: "Electricity." he murmured thoughtfully. 'Captured lightening' the Dark provided helpfully, not understanding the concept entirely itself. "And how is this power produced?"
Ladynero: "It depends," he confessed. "I know the most unstable way is to channel lightning during a thunderstorm, but if I remember correctly, it can be produced using copper wire, magnets and a crank." He shook his head. "I'm sorry I don't know that much more about it. It's one of those things taken for granted. Like glowstones. It's just... there."
Pegunicent: He nodded and patted Abel's shoulder. "Do not be sorry, it is something we can learn together. There are many things neither of us know, or ever shall I think. When one assumes they know everything, or even enough, it is then he has fallen to pride."
Ladynero: "There are new things being discovered or rediscovered every day. There's not a chance that I'll ever know everything," he agreed. "I should go see about cannibalizing the station before too much water sinks it."
Pegunicent: "Don't bother to rush, it's not going anywhere. Beneath those waters are jagged shoals that will keep it from sinking, and besides, I'm sure there will be argument from some faction I will need to smooth over." he shook his head and sighed. "Still. The impossible has been achieved. Now it merely must be seen to it's end."
Ladynero: "I thought someone was going to start a battle in that room between the two factions," confessed Abel with a shrug. "That you managed to get them settled down and that no one started swinging when you left to rest meant that you either scared them into behaving or they were actually thinking for once." He smiled. "For some, they were thinking for the first time in their lives."
Pegunicent: "It's a novel concept to many, reason." He agreed. "Fear is a tool I rather despise, but it serves when nothing else will. Fear and Fascination can accomplish much that outright bloodshed will only delay, but each comes with it's own price." He cocked his head to the side, wondering if their eavesdropper would ever understand the message Sydney was trying to impart. "Everything in life must be paid for in some manner. If I could end this senselessness with good old fashioned back breaking labor, I would rebuild the world piece by piece with my own two hands, rather than resort to the Dark."
Ladynero: Abel chuckled. "That sounds like a pretty good idea to me. I believe there was a phrase once that went: You break it, you bought it." He shrugged. "It could be the same for those that destroyed so much of the world. They broke it, they should fix it."
Cain crouched next to the door, listening to every word that passed between them. His brother was a naive fool, willingly trading information without learning more about this Dark. It was obviously the source of Sydney's powers, and Cain wanted it as well. He just had to be careful not to let on that he wanted it.
