Re: Home: Wren & Luke
[It was probably for the best, that she didn't ask him to try his counting trick on the kids. He knew she still thought they were dead, and he didn't like it, but nothing he said or did seemed to be making much of a difference. How could she think he would ever bring their children to that door? Didn't some part of her realize that them being there didn't make any sense? Over and over, he told her they'd been with Max the whole time. Over and over he told her that they were alive. But she locked them up when he left her alone for less than an hour, and it made it hard to hope that she would come to her senses, eventually; it made it even harder to be willing to leave her at all.
He knew she would never hurt the kids... but what if she forgot to feed them? Or ignored them? Not being there was agonizing. He had no idea how he was supposed to be okay with it-- how he was supposed to stop worrying about her, about the kids, about absolutely everything. Because this? This was the kind of thing that happened when he wasn't around.
But luckily, she didn't say, and so there was nothing for him to get himself all worked up over. He whined in protest when she moved, thinking she was putting distance between them--maybe she didn't want to be near him anymore--but no, it was okay, she just moved a step down. He leaned forward when she cupped his cheeks, fingers closing around her wrists like a tether.] Oui. [Agreement.] That's what I'm hoping. That they'll just go away if I ignore them for long enough. [He thought they were just leftover nightmares from Silent Hill, remnants he'd brought back with him that hadn't faded yet. When she asked if they looked bad, the dead people, he nodded.] They look like they did when-- when they died. How I remember them.
