The Soldier didn't know why Stark was laughing, just as he didn't know why Banner also insisted on referring to him as a friend. But such things weren't important to developing a plan with which to move forward. Hydra had been close enough behind when they brought him here that there was real risk they would uncover Stark's enormous, empty safehouse. If he needed any further pressure not to leave immediately, that was it. He couldn't afford to let them get so close again. He'd been careless in the last facility because he couldn't eliminate witnesses, and there would need to be a cooling off period.
He shrugged the metal arm, rolling his shoulder. It cracked in a satisfying way. The hole in the other shoulder had stopped bleeding.
"I don't need nannies," he said. Oh, someone would be watching, no doubt about that. This place was probably bugged in every corner. But he didn't need Stark and Banner standing over him, waiting for him to spring up and be a different person again. He would take care of himself.
