Re: Marvel hospital: Gwen & Peter
"You're the one being stubborn about me not being stubborn about being stubborn," he protested, trying not to laugh at the tangle of words on his tongue. Maybe some people might think they shouldn't be joking and smiling when Flash was fighting for his life, but Peter always fell back on humor and, besides, what good would moping and drowning themselves in guilt accomplish? Lightening the mood could only help, and it wasn't like it would affect Flash's recovery either way. He laughed when she poked his stomach, squirming in place and swatting at her hand. "I am not flabby. You're just jealous of my superior physique." He grinned when she accused him of quoting faulty data, and he shook his head. "Nope. It's common sense. Common sense transcends statistical information." Which probably made no sense, but hey, it sounded good.
While Flash being in a better hospital meant better care, and maybe a faster recovery, it didn't cancel out the problem of Harry and his possible relapse. It'd been too much to hope for that he could just be okay, and he was stupid to think a wish could fix everything. "Yeah, you're probably right," he sighed. "The problem is, we don't know when it'll wear off. Or what happens when it does." He frowned. "I want to see what he's like in person. We were supposed to get pizza." Peter didn't know what it would accomplish, if anything, but talking to Harry over the journals wasn't the same as talking to him in person.
He figured nobody liked seeing somebody they cared about cry, but he'd hold her while she cried for however long she needed. At least this time Gwen wasn't crying because of him. Well, not just then. He tried not to automatically blame himself for not being there and potentially lessening the horribleness of the door. Her smile was a good thing, he thought, and the way she nuzzled against his fingers made his breath catch in his throat a little. "You make it easy," he said without thinking, and it was probably a good thing that he didn't realize he was staring, a totally embarrassing smile tugging at his lips.
