Re: Marvel hospital: Gwen & Peter
That was a pretty unsatisfactory answer. And while he appreciated the sentiment, Peter was pretty sure that him and MJ being relatively new didn't make them a perfect match for each other. "Of course Flash would want to protect us," he sighed. "But he's wrong." He got what it was like, though, to feel like you should keep someone at arm's length for their own good. He'd agonized over that with Gwen, not wanting to put her in harm's way because of her connection. So, yeah, maybe he understood that part, even if he didn't necessarily agree.
He grinned when she blushed, pleased, and he didn't mind her plucking at his jeans. Like, at all. "Yeah, tights. It could mean anything. Maybe I'm some kind of athlete." He laughed when she defended her choice of hiding spots, justifying a totally unoriginal closet by them not getting caught. "Luck, Stacy," he teased. "That was pure luck." He feigned innocence when she narrowed her eyes, because the point he was trying to make was that rejection wouldn't send him into MJ's arms. But the mention of Carnage jolted him, and Peter raised his eyebrows. "You're kidding." Dismay. "You're not kidding." Loose. Really? So much for a lack of things that could kill Gwen running around. It'd already gone after her, too. "I've only talked to Harry a little," he admitted. "He seemed... okay. Maybe too okay. What do you mean, he lacks empathy? Does he know about Flash?" He'd wished for Harry to be cured, but he hasn't wished for him to age down. That was something else. But still, what if the wishes had messed him up somehow? Great. Just great.
"Stubborn," he muttered, when she rolled her eyes again, and he almost stuck out his tongue. Almost. But, he managed to remain mature. He watched her, and he listened, and he didn't think what she wanted was even a little selfish; she deserved a break. He was about to tell her, but then her voice warbled and he forgot all about good intentions and giving her space. "Oh, Gwen. C'mere." She was close enough that he could slide an arm around her shoulders without much trouble, and he tugged her forward, into a hug.
