Re: [Epic: A Conclusion in a Hundred Parts. Boston.]
[Steve doesn't hear that. He hasn't heard much to be honest. He thinks he's still on with Batman, and once he and Tony hit the water going far too fast, it doesn't matter. It's frigid, cold stabbing, blues dark, and the world is gone, the chaos, everything subsumed and submerged by the bay, brackish waters overwhelming. The weight of Tony in his suit drags them both down, deeper, but Steve fights gravity fiercely, one hand clenching the collar of the banged up metal and dragging it upward with strong strokes, the shield helping propel them.
They're in Fort Point Channel.
When they break the surface finally, and after Steve finishes coughing up a lung, he lugs the both of them to the nearest dock. He pauses to breathe, to check that Tony, who's out cold, is still with him (he is)—no resuscitation needed, he hefts the man into his arms and runs.
He runs all the way to Fenway Park, past debris and broken, bent tenements. He hands Tony over to a professionally calm medical team, lingers only a minute to make sure he's okay, then he's off again. He pats water out of his ear and tries the comms again.] Hello? Can anyone hear me?
[Steve glances at his positioning watch, eyes roaming to check where everyone's gone. He starts in the direction of the Hulk without stopping.]
