Re: Fenway Park, an hour or two into the fighting—Peggy/Captain America
[Peggy isn't the only one blushing. They are in full public view, of course, and no doubt this moment will be construed as selfish and reckless on the part of Captain America by anyone with a camera phone and access to the Internet—big-time hero taking precious time to kiss a woman he cares for, amid chaos! The scandal. If he had instead focused on the fight, would people still have been taken? The answer the media would give would most assuredly be 'no.' He doesn't think it's unfair, as he knows he has a responsibility—he knows he's held to higher standards, but there are moments when he resents it all the same.
But he can't think about that now. His reputation. This is war.
Just as this thought crosses Steve's mind, something moves in the corner of his eye and he whisks the shield from his shoulders, toward the thing. With a wildly patriotic clang!, the shield does its duty and returns to Steve, the creature on the other end of the exchange dizzy in the grass. He grins at Peggy.] Put that as a mark in my favor. Now I just need to think of something "good."
