Re: Queens: Evie/Wren/Luke
[The little sandwiches were all tucked into a colorful bag from the local health food store, dancing veggies on the front and little handles in red, and then Wren began tucking snacks in too. Cabinets and fridge doors open, and Luke was saying people loved homemade things; he was right. As for taking things, needing them, Wren had always, always hated charity. But she'd learned, over the years, that it wasn't charity when it came from people that loved you. Evie helped teach her that a really, really long time ago. So, the little bag with the singing vegetables got heavier and heavier, and she thought as Evie asked questions about what people did for work.]
I saw a listing for the VA. It's here. We can go tomorrow and talk to them. They have lots of jobs listed. I don't know how much they pay, but nonprofits always have rich people backing them. Or we can ask on the journals? Someone from here has to work at that Teresita Project, since there were flyers in the hotel. [She nodded a little bit.] She knew there were jobs, and even if there was only one paying one, she'd let Evie take it and she'd volunteer.
[Really, all Wren wanted to do was take pictures of some of the real people in the city for once, and going to the VA and back would let her do that, maybe. Decided, she walked back to the table, and she put the bag filled with things in front of Evie.] How did you get here? Non, don't answer. Luke can get you home when you go, okay?
[Going outside was scary. Letting Luke go outside was scary. Staying home without Luke was scary. But Evie walking around Queens with Daisy was scary too. And this way, if the place Evie was staying in was really bad, then Luke could make her move to a better one.]
