Re: Queens: Evie/Wren/Luke
[At another time, in another place, Luke probably would have capitulated. But here, now, as much as he wanted to help Evie--he and Wren had known her for so very long--they could help without her moving in with them. It wouldn't be good for Wren, even if she never admitted as much. It wouldn't be good for anyone. Too much time spent under the same roof and all those leftover monsters and fears from Silent Hill would bubble over; that couldn't happen. They had to heal, first. But he did understand what Evie was saying about having to pay things back, about not wanting to feel useless. He nodded.] I understand. Nobody wants to feel useless.
[He looked down at the table when she talked about Will. That had to be horrible to hear, he thought, from someone you loved, even if they weren't real.] That's not true. I mean-- I know you probably know. But what you saw, that wasn't Will. You're not alone, and he did love you. [He glanced at Wren, as though seeking confirmation.] And we can definitely pay for the motel, Evie. Whatever you need.
[The idea of Wren going back to work, especially something new, worried him. Luke couldn't help it. But maybe finding something with Evie would be a good thing; at least she wouldn't be alone. As long as they didn't go off doing anything stupid or dangerous. And she didn't have to rush, either. The last thing he wanted was Wren pushing herself because she thought she had to.] I think you two looking for work together is a good thing. [He smiled.] Just... [He looked at Wren, slightly sheepish.] Don't push yourself, okay? [And nothing dangerous, but that wasn't said aloud. It was communicated silently, a pointed look at his wife that he was sure she'd understand. Helping people could be safe. And, with time, he'd return to his usual level of protectiveness, but just then he was on the overprotective side and there was nothing he could do about it.]
