Re: Queens: Evie/Wren/Luke
[Lia went down for her nap without any fuss. Shhhh, and rock, and even if Wren wasn't sure the baby was really, really alive, it was still kind of soothing a little to rock her in the quiet still of the time bedroom that held a crib and a tiny mattress on the floor, placed there because Gus liked to come into the room to sleep sometimes. But the baby slept, and Wren tucked her into the crib and watched the little girl for a few seconds, and then quiet, quiet steps and she went back downstairs. Not a creak on the stairs, though she knew Luke would hear anyway, and she stopped near the bottom and listened to the things Evie was saying. Out of sight, but she could hear everything, and guilt, guilt, everywhere guilt.
She took another few steps down, and she walked quietly into the kitchen and looked at the food that no one was eating. Well, Gus was, but he was mostly just picking at his plate, and she nodded at him when he looked up at her with questioning grey eyes. Oui, he could go, and he clambered off his père's lap and ran up the stairs without saying anything, anything, and Wren sighed and began clearing the table quietly.
She didn't say anything at all as she moved, table to counter, counter to table, but she looked at Luke, because she was really, really sure Evie had just told them she was homeless. But whenever Wren invited anyone to stay Luke got angry, so she just bit her lip and waited to see what he said.]
