Re: Queens: Evie/Wren/Luke
[Luke didn't know what to say or do any more than Wren did. Usually he tried to be the one who fixed things, but he'd been in that door right alongside the rest of them and he wasn't as okay as he pretended to be. He struggled with everything, or at least that was how it felt, and he didn't know how to make things better for Evie. Maybe he couldn't, maybe neither of them could. But she was being honest; that was something, right? Honesty was better than pretending, or it should be. Yes, if something had happened to all four of them Daisy would have been alone, but he had faith that Max would've made sure she was taken care of. He wasn't all that sure what would've happened to Gus and Lia, either. Would Max have taken them in? Thomas couldn't, not with all his secrecy and the evil ninjas or whatever after him. It'd been a bad situation, but there had never been a chance in hell of staying behind. Not while Wren was in danger.]
It's not your fault. [He glanced at Wren, voice quiet.] You didn't mean to go to that door. You didn't know. [He wouldn't let her blame herself for this, no, no, not when she'd been through as much hell as any of them. Luke met her gaze when she looked at him, and there was a sad sort of understanding there; he knew her helplessness. He'd felt it with Jack, more than once, when things had been bad and he hadn't known how to help his best friend. He nodded along with everything she said, because he couldn't think of anything else to say.
When she stood, saying that she was going to go put Lia down, he wanted to offer to go with her. It was there in the way he looked at her, but Luke didn't think leaving Evie alone would be right.] Okay. [He brushed his fingers against hers, a brief touch before he dropped his hand. Tactile things, like physical contact, helped cement the difference between what was real and what wasn't, and now more than ever he found himself seeking reassurance that way.
As Wren left with the baby, he looked up at Evie.] She's right. We can help you out... financially, if you want. And we're here now. Jack is, too. We made it out. It's... bad right now, still, but it'll get better.
