Re: Queens: Evie/Wren/Luke
[Wren calmed down little by little, as Daisy quieted, and she watched Evie pace and let the back and forth movement of her friend's feet help soothe, and she let herself feel the squeeze to her knee. It wasn't perfect, her recovery, but she did manage to come back from it. She held Lia tight enough to make the baby complain with a slap of little hands on the table that, thankfully, made barely any noise. Her grip loosened, and she looked over at Luke, only to find Gus at looking at her with wide and curious grey eyes. She smiled a little bit. It wasn't a really, really good smile, but it wasn't completely blank.
Then, she nodded in agreement with Luke's words. But she knew, knew, knew Evie, and she could tell her best friend was going to cry. Tears meant things were bad, and she didn't need pretending for that. Evie said something about not wanting the kids to hear, but Wren knew the only one who might understand is Gus, and she didn't think that was the real reason Evie stopped.
Maybe she should be a little ashamed of her reaction, but she wasn't really present enough for shame; getting through the day was hard enough, and okay, so the first time a visitor came over wasn't perfect. But it would get better. It would.]
Daisy just scared me. You don't have to stop talking. [Maybe her candor was uncomfortable, but it was what it was, and it wasn't going to stop anytime soon. She reached over absently, and she rustled Gus' hair.] Eat, bebe.
