Re: Queens: Evie/Wren/Luke
[Evie felt like she was on display, Wren telling her she didn't have to pretend, but Daisy sitting there absorbing every word, even though she was grabbing for bread and saying 'pasta frosting' over and over and over again. along with a few colorful french words she definitely shouldn't know. Gus, likewise was sitting on Luke's lap by then and Evie knew he absorbed it all too. And Lia. She felt like they were all all of a sudden breathing down her neck expecting some kind of wisdom, or better yet the great Evie breakdown and she tugged at the collar of her dress and squirmed in her chair.
The voice in her hear, two voices really. One telling her to just breathe. Another telling her to just shut up. Daisy squirming in her lap and babbling and babbling. She tried to scoot her off, but she wasn't having it, the babbling and laughing continued, and the kid must have weighed 100 pounds there on Evie's lap as she swung her cute fat little legs and the heels of her little black Mary Janes knocked over and over again into Evie's shins, running her tights, and she sighed, running her hand through short raven locks, there was a bit of sweat at her hair line, and she put her hand on her cheek. It was getting warm. She blamed the food cooking, and Daisy, who was just getting heavier by the second, and about to drop Lia's paci in the pitcher of lemonade Luke had just put down so Evie grabbed it quickly and of course she screamed.
Sigh. Evie took a few deep breaths. Just a few and smiled at the two of them. They were talking about something, her she thought. They wanted to talk about her and how awful everything had been but Evie didn't know where to start. There were still kids around, and had it been so awful? She had someone who had been willing to give her money - she didn't even know how much. But that was a nice gesture, probably to get rid of her. Daisy was still screaming, and Evie held the paci in her hand she went to hand it back to her and told her not to put it in the lemonade.
And she did it anyway. And Evie lolled her head back. And apologized.] Max called her Cujo. And me flighty. So. Sorry. She stood up and started pacing a little, Daisy, not screaming anymore, but not wanting to be held and squirming as Evie held her on her hip and wasn't letting her down for fear of what she'd do next.] It really wasn't terrible. I mean. It was terrible. But we were all in bad shape. I was glad they were there. It could have been way worse right? [Daisy squirmed. Evie paced.]
