Re: Queens: Evie/Wren/Luke
[Evie was torn. Torn between two truths. Everything she felt was really, really terrible. But it was good that she'd had people to help her out. She'd meant it when she'd told Shane he'd saved her life. Who knows what might have happened to her if Clementine hadn't helped her. Or if Shane hadn't found her, if she hadn't been able to remember him.
Sure, she'd had to rely on the kindness of virtual strangers, and maybe it hadn't been great feeling to be a thorn in the side of people she didn't know. The tip-toeing around and wondering when she'd be asked to leave. It didn't feel good having no one to talk to. The bitterness that had weighed heavily on her while Jack had told her that he was being well looked after, and Thomas looking after Wren and Luke and the two of them looking after each other.
Of course it wasn't their fault. She wasn't angry at them. She wondered for a moment if Luke actually believed what he was saying, or if he understood that they needed to try and believe it for Wren's sake. Evie was okay. She was fine. She was alive, and breathing, and working, and trying so hard. That's what mattered. None of the other stuff really did in the end. The rest of it was just stupid, and things she couldn't control. She couldn't make people like her, or make connections based on nothing. Besides, what good were connections if they all just went away? What scared her the most is that her group, her steadiness had fallen away from her. And if something else happened there was no one left to help. So she was glomming on to whatever felt steady and real. Hats. Eddie. Jobs. And for a while the skinny house in the mountains. But even that was done. She had just come to expect the other shoe to drop. Always.
When the girls joined them, Daisy though sitting on feet looked like fun, so she did the same, and she had Lia's paci in her mouth - Evie smiled. Those two little ladies. Daisy eventually made the climb onto Evie's lap and went about playing with buttons and hair, and earrings and Evie dodged when she needed to, two more peas in a pod.] It was okay. [Lame. But she was agreeing with Luke and she just wanted to stop talking about her situation more than just about anything else in the world.]
