Re: Queens: Evie/Wren/Luke
[Lia and Daisy made him smile--they were like two peas in a pod--but Luke's attention was drawn mostly to the kitchen, specifically Wren. He couldn't help it. One of the irrational fears that lingered was the fear of her disappearing, or something happening, if he looked away for too long. So, he watched. He was pretty sure Evie staring down the bread had less to do with the actual bread and more to do with Wren's comment that she didn't look okay; admitting to not being okay was something none of them were good at.] The bread is fine, baby. [He smiled, figuring it saved Evie from having to answer.
He had no idea what selling hats was like, but if Evie was out there in the real world, with a job, she was doing better than either of them. In that regard, at least. He also had no idea why Evie would be on a bus. To get here from wherever she was staying, maybe? When Wren glanced back at him he shrugged, to convey that he didn't have the answers either. But he didn't like the confusion in her expression. It was nothing logical, just instinct. Wren was confused about a lot of things these days (he wasn't an idiot, he saw the way she looked at the kids sometimes) and she didn't need to be overwhelmed. Not that Evie was overwhelming her, or that it was her fault, because it wasn't. He was just stupidly protective.
Hence why he stood, Gus still holding on, watching and listening like he always did. The kid was observant.] I'm sure if Evie takes Daisy to Gotham, it must be safe. [It was a question and a statement, and he looked over at Evie, hoping she'd agree, at least to soothe Wren's worry. Honestly, he hated Gotham. He'd never go near the place. But that was him, and Luke knew he was insanely biased.]
