He smiled faintly, and wiped at his running nose with the back of his hand, blinking a few times. "Typical," he said. "A nice guy chats me up, and he turns out to be in a cult." He laughed, then, thickly, because, oh god, what the fuck.
What had happened after? He remembered, now, but he wasn't sure he wanted to talk about that. Instead, he said, "It reminds me now of this thing that happened when I was in grade 11. I don't do very well when good-looking men pay attention to me." He sank a little deeper into the couch. "I'm tired of feeling sorry for myself. Sometimes things simply happen, and we learn from our mistakes."
When Sam said that the 'dude they killed' looked like her, his gaze focused on her sharply, reminiscence and shame falling away. Concern was rapidly replacing everything else. "...Sam, what did you wish for?"
Not realizing quite yet that she didn't remember Micah at all, he didn't know what weight his words held for her, but he would have said the same thing either way. This hadn't been her fault. Micah was just insane.
