Re: Mayflowers: Max & Sharon
Max didn't see what Sharon was doing as fixing, and that was the problem, but there wasn't any point in talking it to death. She felt too tired for arguments these days, too old for them too. Years earlier, she would have fought about this until her throat was hoarse, and she would have done something about it. But she couldn't do that now, and she didn't think she wanted to. She could get Ella to babysit, and she could get custody papers drawn up in the kid's name, just in case. She could get back in there, but she didn't trust the team, and she didn't want to get into the saddle. SHIELD was a problem, and she didn't understand how history could repeat without anyone doing anything about it. But that wasn't Carter. That was bigger than Carter, and Brandon wanted Barnes reined in, but Max was starting to think Barnes was the only one looking at the bigger picture. He was insane, but she thought he got it.
But, no, ins and outs, and she'd just keep making the money - to cover the corners that didn't meet - with discreet hits from safe distances.
"I don't trust door hopping," she admitted, because cabana boys were an easier subject, and she leaned at the waist to let Delia pet the dog. "It means I have to find my cabanas here, and I'm tired of traveling." Which wasn't a lie. A life spent on the move, and she liked not hopping on a plane every week.
