"Of course I've had moles in my department. Probably more than one," she tilted her head to the side a bit. Confused. Trying to figure out where the disconnect had actually been, because they seemed to be talking about a few different things. Bucky had certainly sped things up a bit uncomfortably, and everything else seemed to be a bit odd, a bit messy, a bit confusing and weird.
"They're all still on payroll, Max. I'm still on payroll. But they're all just people who know about HYDRA that have come to me and asked to help. Or, they're people that I brought in when I first started working on this a year ago, and asked if they would be willing to help.
I think there may have been a miscommunication somewhere between you and I and I'm sorry about that. Things moved fast, before you and I were really able to discuss and move on things, Steve was involved. And that was my fault for alarming you. And yes, I know it's a mess, and it's going to get worse. I'll have to go report to DC eventually. But I just don't stop trying to take down an evil empire because all I got for Christmas was a harsh reminder that my life is a cascading pile of insanity no matter what universe I'm in. But you're out of all of this, I promise. I just came by for a burger. I swear. And maybe a flower crown."
