Re: Gramercy: Harry and Gwen
She laughed at the emphasis on the you. The laugh was young and honest, and his disbelief was completely warranted. Before Peter slung his way into her life, she'd gotten in trouble precisely never. "Can you believe that? Me getting in trouble that doesn't involve answering an extra-credit question incorrectly." A wider smile. "Not that I ever answered extra-credit questions incorrectly." Nope. She blew the curve every single time in high school and, as she looked at Harry, she tried to imagine the girl he saw looking back at him. The girl he'd known when he was this age followed all the rules, and she didn't lie, and she didn't do half of the things Gwen had gotten into the habit of doing the past few years. It made her long for those easier days, when life really was only as complicated as a No. 2 pencil and a scantron.
He said he knew about wishes, and that just confirmed her belief that his regression hadn't been a complete one. He wouldn't remember the wishes otherwise, and she hated that there were inconsistencies drawing fault lines across the boy on the couch with her. Those were all weak points, and any single one could cause an earthquake. She wanted to test his blood. She wanted to know if the serum was there, but dormant, or if it wasn't there at all. But she refrained from asking, and it wasn't even for a good scientific reason; it was nostalgia. She'd really missed this Harry Osborn.
She was quiet as he tried to remember his most recent memory. She squeezed his fingers, and she curved her thumb back-and-forth along the back of his hand reassuringly. His response, when he squinted, wasn't something she looked forward to, and there wasn't any logic in that either, but she was surprised once he said he remembered prom being scheduled for next month - really surprised. "We danced." It was a silly answer, but it was the first thing that came to her lips.
Oscorp was solid, and that made it a safer topic, so long as she didn't go near tortures or pulse mutants. She nodded. "Yeah. I was working there until recently, but I quit. Your assistant, Felicia, offered me my job back. If you want me there, I'll go. Just let me know, okay?" It was better than trying to figure out how to tell him all the rest, though her features probably said she was trying to figure out how to tell him something. For all her recent experience with falsehoods, she still wasn't very good at them.
