Re: Chinatown - Bruce/Selina
I wasn't thanking you because I had to. [But she wasn't offended, and it was evident in her tone. He'd never take the thank you. That just wasn't his way. She watched the sword drop, and then she watched his shoulder lift. She didn't need him to tell her that he didn't feel much lately; she could see it in his eyes. She wondered how long that had been there, and she wondered how she'd missed that much apathy. It explaining a lot, but she didn't want to think about that in the middle of a warzone, more blood than black on her suit and so tired she could barely stand it. And standing, that was bad. It let the adrenaline wane, and the adrenaline was the only thing that was keeping any of them moving at this point.]
I always did like a good distraction. [It wasn't a lie. She didn't want them, distractions, not like she had once. But it wasn't a lie. She gave him a long, hard look. A seeing look, and maybe she understood more than she had in months - or at least she thought she did. She snapped her whip testingly against the street, the snap echoing. ] You're safer with a comm out here. Go. [She nodded in the direction of Stark Tower.] And be careful with Loki. I've heard he has magic, and he can't be trusted. Apparently his brother has a soft spot. He'll try to use that to his advantage. [And she realized, standing there, whip in her hand, that she knew more about the dynamics of this world than her own. Her mossy green eyes turned impossibly sad, and she snapped the whip at the edge of the nearest cleared out building. She tested the tension.]
