[She wasn't expecting a heart-to-heart. She was used to needing to pull things out of him, tension and unwilling, and she'd learned to do it well over the years. She didn't know when it had stopped working. Before Damian? And she'd just ignored it. But she'd gotten very, very bad at ignoring things lately. The grunt was acknowledged, but not replied to, and she just chuckled at his insistence that he wasn't in any mood. Anyway, he didn't need to agree with her. She could tell. You didn't spent a decade obsessed with someone without picking up a thing or three.
And it was good he didn't expect an apology for the use of his shoulders. She was an unorthodox fighter, but she'd learned to work in a team during her time in the JLA. He was sturdy, and she knew he wouldn't be distracted just because her feet landed on his shoulders. At least she was absolutely sure about that; she trusted him in a fight. She always had.
She took his response at face value. She didn't know Tony had asked for help, but she wasn't surprised. Just like she wasn't surprised to find out the Bat had offered. It wasn't Gotham, after all. She had a feeling he'd find anything better than Gotham these days. She wondered, for just a second, if she was ruining that for him.
She didn't ask.
Two more aliens went down, claws in their guts, and the hold a pivot to jump and kick them both in the torso before retracting. Down they went, and she just moved in the direction of the family. He would follow. She trusted that completely too.
