Re: Chinatown - Bruce/Selina
[Chinatown was a mess. The National Guard wasn't anywhere to be found, regardless of what Cap had said. And she had no idea how they would even make it through. And she didn't like that at all. Sure, she owned a penthouse in Manhattan, but she'd been living in Chinatown almost exclusively since the incident with the bomb. It reminded her of Gotham more than any other part of the city. The locals weren't rich, and many of them had owned the little shops for generations. She liked these people, and she really didn't like the way the aliens were demolishing them like they didn't matter. There was no boat here, no men grabbing women and throwing them over their shoulders. She wondered if they'd already been there, or if they just hadn't made it there yet, the slavers. If it was the latter, she'd be waiting, and they'd be very, very sorry.
But for now, there were people being cut down in the street with swords and knives and axes, while those stores that had been there for decades were cleared out. And she was concentrating on taking down two particularly large creatures who were trying to drag an old couple from a laundromat. Maybe she was supposed to be doing something more strategic, like securing a perimeter, but Selina was never very good at strategy.
She'd just stuck a bullet in the second creature's mouth when the bike exploded, and she covered the old couple with her body, the heat being easily dispersed against the suit's black surface. That done, she ushered them down the narrow alley she'd been using to hide victims. It was too narrow for the aliens, even at the widest point, and there were a dozen people huddled in the space behind the shops that lined the alley.
It took her a few seconds longer to locate him than it should have. One, she didn't expect him to be there. And, two, she looked down and not up. But she saw him go down, and she chuckled to herself. She knew he wasn't there for her, but right then? It didn't matter. The adrenaline was rushing too fast for hurt feelings.
He was on his feet by the time she made it to him, her whip yanking the Marauder behind him off his feet with a twist around his ankles.]
I told you that suit's terrible for your balance. [From over his shoulder, and she looked like hell, but the smile on her face was genuine, even beneath the grime and blood.] Need some help?
