Re: Jurassic Park: Gwen & Peter
He was pretty sure she didn't understand just how hard her death had hit him, but they'd talked about it before and it wasn't something Peter felt like rehashing over and over. She was alive and well, and nobody wanted to dwell on their own death, right? Right. It was a total downer. So he just squeezed her fingers back, an acknowledgment that he knew she understood. Some things they still didn't need words for.
If it wasn't for Harry, he probably would've pushed the teasing about living with no rules. But Harry was Harry, problematic as always, and he thought it was about time somebody made him start taking responsibility for his actions. Life was all about choices. Harry had made a lot of bad ones, but it didn't have to be that way. He could change; he just had to want to change. He started to say as much, but then he saw Gwen turn red--out of shame, embarrassment, whatever--and he switched gears. "Hey." Peter wasn't thinking about boundaries or lines when he lifted his fingers to her cheek, he just wanted her to know that she didn't have to be embarrassed or ashamed. Like, ever. "It's not your fault, Gwen." Maybe he lingered too long, maybe he dropped his hand a little slower than he should have, but whatever.
Smile, and right, Harry, focus on that. The issue at hand. "Yeah, no, you're right. Some things you can't find a cure for, you know? Dr. Banner can't fix what's wrong beyond the serum." He shrugged. "I guess we'll just have to deal with it as it comes. Get him help, if he needs it." Which wouldn't be easy, but if Harry was just going to go off and try to inject himself again once he was cured, well, all this would've been for nothing.
Maybe he should've noticed the darkening sky sooner, but he didn't. He looked up when she did, noticing the wind picking up and the dinosaurs beginning to move; that was probably a good idea. Moving. He watched as she reached for the map and spread it out, and the only reason he noticed her looking at him was because he was looking at her, too. Peter always found it hard to focus when he was around her, and this was no exception. One hand on the map to keep in flat, he leaned in a little closer, shoulder pressed against hers, under the pretense of getting a better look. "You think we should find another way back?"
