Re: Jurassic Park: Gwen & Peter
She whispered details in his ear as she nudged. Scientific classification, kingdom, phylum, clade, weight, height, family systems, distinguishing characteristics. He probably knew it all, but she'd done her research, okay? She tried not to step on anything that snapped or cracked, because she had no true orientation for the timeline of this door. The visitor center was abandoned, but she didn't know how long it had been since vehicles roamed the park, or how long it had been since these creatures had been around humans. So, she tugged on him every few steps, stopping him, just to keep the movement at a minimum.
The edge of the treeline finally opened out, and beyond the very near family of three, a dozen other of the same type of dinosaur lingered. Eating, walking, just being. Hand on his hip, she just tugged him to a full stop. She should be fishing things out of her bag; science required documentation and proof, not just observation, but she didn't even think to do that yet. She was too caught up in looking. "Their crests are beautiful," she whispered. "Originally, scientists thought it was like a snorkel, and that they were a water-living species."
Her voice was quiet, barely anything against his ear, and the creatures in front of them didn't so much as look their way. But behind them, there was movement in the greenery, and Gwen turned super slowly to look over her shoulder.
The parasaurolophus there was an adolescent, small, not much taller than they were. And it was close, curiously looking with none of the low-frequency sounds associated with alarm or fear.
She crouched as slowly as she could manage, and she tore up a handful of green and stretched out her hand really slowly.
