Re: Jurassic Park: Gwen & Peter
He was screwing this up, big time. Without even meaning to. In the middle of Jurassic Park. All the things he should say and do flashed through his mind, but Peter totally clammed up. He couldn't backtrack because he wasn't entirely sure where he'd lost his footing, which meant he didn't know where to back up to, but he did know she'd totally misunderstood somewhere along the line. No sides! He was trying not to take sides. Which meant he wasn't choosing MJ over her; he was just trying to be a good friend. But neutrality, it really wasn't working out for him. Abort, Parker, abort.
Too late.
Explanations and really thick foliage didn't work out so well. And the quiet that followed his exclamation? Shut him right up. Stupid. He was so stupid. Rushing right in just got him smacked in the face by a bunch of leaves, and he slowed to a stop with a groan. Okay. Straight ahead, not a good idea. New plan needed.
While it was tempting to just trample right over everything, full sulk mode activated, he figured he could at least try to be stealthy and find the clearing before Gwen did. She'd swerved out of sight, so he was left creeping around among the trees while listening for the sound of her footsteps. A compass would've been a really, really good idea, but he was striking out on good ideas today, so he was left with his own sense of direction and instinct. But, he figured, the dinos would've been looking for the clearing too at some point, so following the trampled ground made sense.
He thought he heard her, rustling somewhere ahead, but he couldn't be sure. Stupid trees and greenery were everywhere, and Peter silently cursed it all. Okay, he veered right, trying to keep low so he'd make less noise, and yeah, those were definite footsteps. Okay. He put on a burst of speed, shoved his way through a bush, and kept going.
