Re: Gotham: Penny & Jake & Clem
[The coffee was starting in, a warm hum through his blood that woke him up a little. He didn't like his hair messed any and he ducked away from that ruffle with the corners of his mouth pulling, complaining some with a sound in his throat that said Jake was real familiar with aunts who got familiar right off. Jake didn't know anything about what was in his face or wasn't: he was transparent to everyone but his own self, and he took the chocolate from her in both fingers and grinned, a break of sunshine.]
Thanks. [And he looked over at Clem, real surprised she was so slow on moving. Clem made Jake think about company, about a diamond shined up real pretty by being set against other shiny things that didn't glow so bright. His aunts were like sunshine and bees, the way they buzzed over him but Clem's smile reassured Jake that the delay had nothing to do with the arrival. Probably something in one of those magazines that had caught on her attention.]
You want coffee, Aunt Penny? [Polite, and band-box manners his grandma had trained him up on in, despite Graham. Jake's voice was croaky with sleep still, and the look toward Clem was reassurance in the arrival. Aunt Penny got on fine with Graham. She hadn't refused a call as much as Jake knew, and he was real keen on avoiding family who prodded him on back towards his father.]
