Re: Gotham: Penny & Jake & Clem
[Penny hadn't seen Jake in a handful of months which was longer than normal between visits home, but work had been hectic. But there were still goofy letters home and calls. She was as good a letter writer now as she had been in the army, even to her cousin's kid. Especially to her cousin's kid.
When the door opened she had just popped a mint into her mouth, a strong one and her eyes were wide and almost water and she coughed.] Son of a bitch. [The smell of cold and smoke now mixed with altoid. She laughed.] Look at you. [She scruffed the mop of hair. There was something darker in his face that hadn't been there, something she had expected since she'd heard about zombies from Graham. Something she'd seen at war, and in her job in New York. Something that had her giving his shoulder a squeeze but her smile never faltered. She was still happy to see him.] Been too long, honey. Sorry about that.
[She reached into her pocket and pulled out sex squares of chocolate. Bought at Grand Central Station, every time when she was on her way to the airport. A packet of six pieces, scenes of New York on the wrappers. It wasn't the best chocolate. It probably wasn't even good chocolate. But she'd first gotten them for him when he'd been just real little, and she'd been real Army broke. Well, she was still coming from New York, so she'd stopped. No reason to mess with tradition when tradition was still possible. She put them in his hand with little pomp and circumstance. And stepped further inside toward the coffee.] Clem? Come in here and say hi before I find a way to get offended.
