Re: Marvel: Thomas at Luke and Wren's
It was sudden. Almost too sudden, enough so that the lack of pressure against the door took a couple of seconds to sink in. Luke hadn't actually expected them to listen and go away. He kept his hands where they were just in case, still pushing, but there was nothing to push against anymore. No dead things shoving, and it was quiet, too, like whatever was in the basement had just disappeared. He leaned forward, pressed his ear to the door. Slowly, slowly, he dropped his hands, and his breathing started to calm.
But then Thomas' voice cut through the silence, and Luke jerked back, away from the door, abruptly. His eyes widened in surprise; he'd know that voice anywhere. He knew the tone, too, and he reached for the knob without thinking. Before he could unlock the door, though, he paused. He thought. Why was Thomas in the basement? Maybe he'd made the dead things go away, maybe, or maybe--
Maybe it wasn't Thomas, just something that sounded like him. A trick, to get him to open the door.
He hesitated.
One hand still on the knob, he reached back for his gun with the other. "How do I know you're really him?"
