Thomas gave Pepper a weary smile at her rejoinder. "You're right." Very, very gently, Thomas untangled their fingers as he moved around the table and sat across from her. It occurred to him that he should have let her get something to eat, or a cup of coffee, before beginning this conversation. Everyone who worked at an office was comforted by a warm cup in their hands. It was too late now, he thought, and shook his head.
He settled into the chair, and he was careful to avoid touching his knee, which he didn't want to do in front of so many of his followers, trusted though they might be. They were watching him very carefully without seeming to.
"I am someone that is... watching this world. For danger, typically. Forgive me, I will be vague." Thomas wet his thin lips with the tip of his tongue, and let his thoughts form behind the fog of his eyes as he settled in his chair. He folded his hands, at apparent ease, more for her benefit than his. "I am one of many, but the many follow me. I am not associated with the colorful heroes in your tower." He smiled, ever so slightly. "But I... am dealing with a threat. Or I am trying not to deal with a threat. And I want to know how they are handling it."
