Re: Hallway: Hels & Gwen
Life is messy without lies too. [It was a simple, but accurate statement in her estimation. All the honesty in the world hadn't prevented bad things from happening. She was usually unfailingly hopeful, but the series of events from zombies onward had left her feeling like optimism was a waste of mental energy. She didn't feel like that all the time, and there were moments - like the carousel with Peter - where she remembered what it was like to think that cops were good and right prevailed, that life would never hand a person more than they could handle. But that was harder to hold onto these days, and she wasn't sure where she stood in a world without that happy ending to be certain of.]
Maybe she chased him down, but Damian didn't. [She was running through possibilities, but it still sounded weak to her.] You're right. As a dad, he should check on his kids. Kids come first. [She said it with the absolute conviction of a child who always had come first, and who thought that was just how parenting always should be. She wanted Emily with her; she knew that wasn't best, and putting Emily's needs first was what mattered. Ergo, putting Damian's needs first mattered most too.] Fearing failure can make people inactive. [It was a concession.] Maybe he's mad at himself for what he did with Damian too. I think everyone I've talked to in Gotham sounds mad about things. Jason's mad because your dad let him die and didn't go after the guy that killed him. I think he sounds like he has a sucky record, no matter which version of him it is.
[She chewed slowly, and she considered.] Do you want to go find the guy? I can help. [She didn't do lethal, but she could help.] If everyone thinks your dad loves her more, then there's a big problem. One person thinking something can just be opinion, but if everyone thinks the same thing, then there's a definite pattern of questionable behavior. Has anyone clarified to her that she's a problem? Does she not care?
