Re: Hallway: Hels & Gwen
[There was a time when she might have taken it personally, but everyone was entitled to their own secrets, and to keep them how they saw fit, even if it grated a little bit on sore nerves.] I thought about trying to teach you, but I'm not sure I want to. Life gets messy with lies. [Hers was less of a mess than it used to be, but some things were messier now than they had been before. Still, they had been her choice, and she wasn't regretting it now.] But that's pretty messy. [She winced a little to hear it, because that's what should be done. It certainly wasn't something worth smiling about.]
He made time to see Selina, but didn't make time to see Damian until I yelled at him. And then he saw him only once and Damian needed to see him so badly - [She shook her head and stuffed a little torn piece of pizza into her mouth.] No one should have to tell him that he needs to spend face to face time with his son. [Quietly, pointedly said.] Even if he didn't know that he needed to pin Damian down, he should know that. [The remaining bits of her slice she dropped inside the box, the torn up pieces barely recognizable as she reached for a fresh slice.] He - [Pause, a corkscrew of her mouth.] He doesn't suck. And I get that he doesn't know what to do with us, that he was never expecting to have kids, nevermind fully grown kids that just showed up on his doorstep, but he really needs to unstick his head from wherever it is. [Another pause.] Maybe he's afraid of fucking up with us. [A little bite off the tip.] When no one else was there for me, he was, but I'm so mad at him for what he did with Damian. [Her voice trailed off as she took another, larger bite.
The glance, the disbelief - Helena understood that.] No one did. Not Bruce, not Dick, not Damian. [A shrug of her shoulders. She was the one that kept anger close, the one with a temper, but it didn't show now.] So I told Bruce that he should consider me dead and that I wasn't going to be using his last name anymore. I can't trust them and I'm not playing Dick's game of double standards, and I know that romantic love is different than filial love, but there's a reason why we keep saying that Bruce loves Selina more than he loves us.
