Re: Silent Hill: Wren/Evie/Luke/Jack
[Oblivious to Jack grabbing Evie at the top of the stairs, and only concerned with avoiding the splatter of sinew and tissue rained down by Luke's gun, Wren let him tug.
Mostly.
She dragged back sometimes. Wordless, not that way, this way, and there wasn't any real reason for it. Not one that made sense to sanity or reason. It was the shadows. Harmless, she knew. They'd kept her company in the closet. Squeak, stumble, vanish. Small, like a little toddler, and she looked down and followed. If she had a flashlight, it would be easier. But she didn't have one.
But her phone, and she pulled it out as they exited the apartment building and stepped into the rust and black hell beyond.
The night sky was black and featureless, and she used her phone to light one of the tiny children. A girl, and her giggle a squeak, and Wren broke away from Luke to give chase, white billowing. Down Bloch Street and over the river, and there she stopped and looked down, hands on the edge and the water below was blue and gleamed, even in the darkness.
Church songs carried on the water, and Wren cocked her head and listened, a little bird catching a tune. She twirled in a circle, listening, listening, listening and trying to decide which way the songs were coming from.
There.
A step.
But another little squeak, and one of the tiny toddlers flickered on the other side of the bridge.
