Re: log: joker & the bat
Forever. Yes, the Bat remembered that brazen claim, that theirs was a dance meant to last eternity. No matter how many times the Joker was incarcerated he never seemed to stay down. And even here, where he disappeared for months at a time and different versions replaced the last, he always came back.
His scowl only deepened when the Joker told him that he was uptight. But he thought, as much as he didn't want to, about the clown's words. About others coming and going. Some left and came back, some didn't. But the Bat always remained. And the Joker? He always returned, one way or another. But he didn't say anything, nothing to give away what was going own behind that mask of impassivity.
Next time. There wouldn't be a next time. The joker card stared up at him and the Bat seized the table, ready to use it as a projectile to take the Joker down, but then the gunmen burst in and all he caught was a glimpse of the Joker disappearing from sight, instead, before he changed tactics. The table became a shield, plates and undercooked bird clattering to the floor.
In the midst of a seemingly endless haze of bullets, the maitre d' drove a knife into his own throat and the Bat and his batarang were too slow to stop it; his no! was drowned out by gunfire. Teeth ground together, he launched the table into the line of gunmen and used the distraction to utilize more smoke bombs.
It was over quick. He was angry, and anger gave him a heavy hand that took no mercy. And of course, when the smoke cleared, the Joker was gone. He'd missed his chance.
