[The dismissiveness rolled off of Steve's back as he moved back and forth between the corpses inside and the graves outside, the pair of men working together in relative silence. The red smear on Steve's jacket grew and darkened with brown dirt, as did his sleeves and the thighs of his jeans, his face and hands. But he didn't stop, not until he had everyone out of the facility and in the ground.
He wished with a dull, amber ache for Peggy. He needed her here. She would know what to say and she would get it. She would understand why this was important.
But, she wasn't here, just like Bucky wasn't here, and as Steve pushed dirt over the last man's face, he started crying again, until he was essentially useless, on his knees on churned-soft ground. Stark was here, but he didn't think he'd ever felt more alone.]
