Re: osborn estate: gwen & pete
[Anyone could die. Pete learned that the hard way when he'd lost Gwen, but still, MJ's death had shaken him. All of this had. It almost wasn't fair, that he'd gotten one person he cared about back only to lose another. Both, ironically, taken away because of Harry.
Maybe he shouldn't have been grinning, or even smiling a little, but he couldn't help it. She made it so easy.] I think, and this is just my personal opinion, that he's lucky to have your support. [And yeah, he had no idea she didn't need ice. He had no clue about her abilities; he hadn't connected the dots between Gwen and the spider lady yet. Nah, Pete was mostly just agreeing to the ice so she would, because she could be stubborn that way. And he worried, like, a lot.
He only looked back at the panic room door once as he followed her up the stairs. By this point he'd realized they were really alone, that there was no hired help lurking around. He hopped up on the counter once they were in the kitchen, socked heels bumping against the cupboards, and he watched as she pulled out the ice tray. Okay, so maybe Gwen had been a little blind when it came to Harry, but she loved him or whatever. She'd wanted to see the best in him.] Gwen, you can't blame yourself for his actions. He made his choices, and you tried to help. You were a good friend to him. Better than he deserved, even. [Pete was earnest, willing her to believe him even a little.
When she said she was sorry about MJ, he met her gaze for a couple of seconds before looking down at his knees.] I'm sorry too. That I... never really got a chance to know her. This MJ, I mean. She was the same, but different. You know? [He missed her, but maybe it was his MJ that he missed more. Pete couldn't be sure. He looked back up.] He could've killed you. And I wasn't there. [Too late, again.]
