"Because I was in a very bad mood," explained, even though it was a teensy bit of a given. She watched his shoulder lift, and then her mossy gaze tracked back to his face. She managed to give him a smile, warm around the edges, even if it was a challenge to pull it off. "You're a good man, Mr. Wayne." He was. It was hard to remember now, when all the bad things from before the holiday were coursing poison through her veins. "There are days I want nothing but to stop trying," she admitted with a bitter little laugh.
His expression went sad, but hers went slightly warm. "She's beautiful though, isn't she? Lucy?" Alright, so maybe admitting she'd seen the tiny baby wasn't exactly on the list of intended things, but she'd always had a soft spot for kids, and little fingerstripes that promised to be as impressive as their ginger-haired mothers were no exception.
Ah, but he asked that question. Did it matter what Ivy thought? She sighed, shoulder heavy against rock. "No, it doesn't matter," she admitted, and she went when he tugged. Uneven steps and dizziness, but she went. "Oh, she wants it to feel more like home. That means drawing you out to play. And what's the best way to do that?" She lifted a brow. "Is it bad that I'd rather deal with Thorns and Joe over emotional crisis I can't resolve? Give me a good rogue any day of the week."
She squeezed his fingers; maybe that was a little bit of a contradiction.
