[She wasn't sure she would call her daughter a good kid. Amanda was a handful, spoiled by her father and raised by countless nannies. She was well behaved with adults, generally, but she was entitled, and she wasn't used to being told no. This transition was hard for her, and the kid just wasn't very pleasant most days, but Max figured those were growing pains. Amanda hadn't exactly won the genetic lottery when it came to being a sweet kid, and she couldn't very well hold that against her.]
She's doing better than she was. Becoming Amanda Main was hard to settle into. But she's making progress at this whole 'living like a poor person' thing. [Max grinned.] No more ponies, Ella. It's a hardship.
