Luke Henry is cursed to live for (aneternity) wrote in rooms,
People always said blood was thicker than water, but Luke knew that wasn't true. His family here was, aside from his kids, made of people who weren't blood related at all. Max, Thomas, and Ella, friends like Evie and Jack, Wren and the kids, cobbled together they were messy and complicated and so far from perfect, but they were still family. He was grateful, too, because he knew he had more than most people did. In a lot of ways he was lucky, even though it was hard to remember sometimes.
He skipped the sugar but added some milk, and Ella smiled the way most parents did over their stubborn, own-person kids. Gus hadn't gotten there yet. He was still quiet, but he was getting better at expressing what he wanted. Lia, on the other hand, he doubted would have any problems there once she was old enough. "Yeah, Gus was like that. Still is, a little. But they grow up. I still can't believe how much she has," he said, of Elizabeth. It seemed like just yesterday she'd been Beth, still small. He was surprised to learn that the man Ella had thought was her father actually wasn't, but he didn't want to make a big deal out of it. Raised eyebrows, but that was it. "Oh." He paused. "It's good that you got to meet him. So he's who she reminds you of?"
