Re: Manor: Bruce & Selina
He didn't know whether or not he'd expected her to come. There wasn't room for expectations, and he didn't wait for anyone. Maybe he should have reached out, but he had no idea what to say. Even here, kneeling in the grass, Bruce only found words because of the very convenient distraction trying to climb onto his lap. He caught the annoyance in her voice, and under different circumstances it would have made him smile. He just looked down at the puppy, who was basking in all the attention, and nodded.
When she took a step forward, he looked back up at her. He was grieving, yes, struggling even, but he wasn't stupid. "Yes. There was a dog. He's still there." Or maybe Wren and Luke had taken him home. He didn't know. That puppy, however, had someone to take care of him regardless. This one didn't. Bruce just wasn't sure if he was fit to look after a living thing. "People around me tend to die, but not pets." It was flat, near emotionless, and his attention returned to the puppy as he spoke. But after a long, long moment he gathered the ball of fur into his arms and stood, something almost comical about the sight of his stoicism while the puppy wriggled and tried to lick his chin.
